So yesterday’s adventure consisted of trying some of the alcohols, specifically this
About as strong as vodka but with nothing like the same burn it is absolutely enjoyable on its own or with a mixer, and coming in at just under $5 USD a bottle. It is possible I have simply lost my tolerance but this hit me so much harder than I expected.
For those who may be concerned, given the current media storm around it at the moment, I am quite confident the drink safe. The methanol problem is more an issue in bars where you don’t see the bottle that pours your drink; this is a well known and reputable distillery and purchased off the shelf of a big name supermarket.
On the note of purchasing alcohol apparently it is illegal to buy or sell alcohol between 2pm and 5pm in Thailand. It is a law that dates back tot he 1970’s and as urban legend tells thee story it came about to stop officials and business folks getting hammered during lunch meetings and the law persists to this day. It is perfectly legal to drink alcohol you already own at any time, you just can’t but it during that window.
At any rate I am feeling a touch delicate today, it is not the sort of hangover that I get from most spirits, no headache and only minor queasiness; it is just a feeling that I am at less than my best and I would really rather just go back to bed and take a nap.
That aside I still managed to keep to my self care routine, minus my gym visit as it was inexplicably closed; I took that as a sign that I should skip the workout but keep the rest of my routine.
In deference to feeling less than my best I opted for a double-edge razor rather than a straightedge today, a safer bet with my hands. It also gave me the chance to try out the new blades; called feather and considered the absolute pinnacle of razor blades from all I have gathered.
It was such a smoot clean shave with so little irritation I was able to do a three pass shave (my personal preference of with the grain, against the grain and then cross-grain) with no cuts or irritation of the skin and while the shadow is ever-present (at least until I can get laser) I don’t think my face has been this smooth to the touch since I was in single digits; all in all I am calling it a success.
Barring anything else coming up I am expecting to take today gently; I am awaiting some more deliveries, hopefully the second to last for a while (one more, the microwave, is definitely scheduled for tomorrow) so I will play some more games in the lounge while I wait. It is amusing to me that this ancient laptop is now serving as almost a dumb terminal; I have an external webcam for chatting with my clan, an external wifi adapter because the one on the laptop is so old it can’t even see the network, an external mouse because gaming with a trackpad is a certain form of torture, and soon enough an external key bard so that I stop having to be at an angle because of the cooling pad. Of course all of the actual graphics and cpu processing is happening on a remote virtual machine and is just streamed across. All the same this laptop has proven itself very hardy, being more than ten years old and having had very heavy use so I am honestly more amused and impressed than anything else.
